Healing our Relationship to Masculinity and the Self with Rocco Kayiatos

In today’s episode, Alexandra speaks with Rocco Kayiatos!

Rocco Kayiatos is an expert in content, brand and community building. He is an award-winning leader in the tech and media space, creating training programs, content in all forms and formats and building loyal communities around a brand. He is currently Chief Content Officer at FOLX Health and has held leadership positions at Grindr and BuzzFeed.

Rocco is hailed as the first openly transgender man to put out an LP (2003). He is the founding editor of the world’s first trans male quarterly print journal, Original Plumbing Magazine, and co-editor of Original Plumbing: The Best of Ten Years of Trans Male Culture (Feminist Press, 2019), writer and editor of The Mindful Masculinity Workbook: A Practical Guide To Healthier Masculinity. He is the proud co-founder and director of Camp Lost Boys, the first sleep-away summer camp exclusively for adult men of trans experience.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Rocco’s reflections around making yourself accessible by putting yourself out there on different platforms, and how it can be dismantling and confusing, if you don’t also put up clear boundaries for yourself around that.

  • Ideas around being on the frontier or the beginnings of a new idea, cultural movement, or zeitgeist, and how you don’t necessarily always get the credit, or the acclaim for doing so, but how that work lays down the groundwork for other, larger, more mainstream movements to come in and take up space in our culture.

  • Thoughts around our culture’s current views around masculinity, how important it is to heal with our relationship to masculinity, and how we are missing spaces in our culture today where men can gather, heal, and connect together.

  • Ideas around cancel culture and how it’s actually very binary - black or white, bad or good - and how that’s doing us a huge disservice today at a time where we are trying to become more inclusive, accepting, and understanding as a society at large.

  • And so much more!
